✅ What is the best way to spend nectar points?

With so many places now accepting Nectar points as payment, the ‘best’ way for you to spend the points you’ve earned will depend on what you’re looking for.

Some ways you can spend Nectar points:

  • Instore at Sainsburys – get money off your grocery shopping
  • Argos – save up your points for something bigger at Argos
  • Expedia – Nectar points can be used to travel
  • London North Eastern railway – plan a day out using your Nectar points on the railway
  • Sky – at home entertainment
  • Vue – treat yourself to a night at the cinema

Every year, Sainsbury’s has what they call a Sainsbury’s Nectar double up event which is a week where you can double your Nectar points (full post) and spend them in-store.

There are a few conditions to this, so have a read of the full post on this double up event to make sure you don’t miss it. Sainsbury’s don’t advertise very far in advance, so you’ll need to keep and eye out and make sure you know what to look out for and what to do!

Where can I collect Nectar points?

The vast majority of Nectar card holders use their Nectar card to collect points on the weekly food shop in Sainsbury’s and often don’t realise there are a whole host of other places they could be boosting their Nectar points balance.

Some places you can collect Nectar points

  • eBay – easily link your account and earn Nectar points every time you buy something on eBay. Link your Nectar account to eBay here
  • Just Eat – Love a takeaway? You can now link your Nectar card to Just Eat, so you get a little back in points when you order food in! Register here!
  • Fashion – Selfridges, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, River Island, Accessorize, Denenhams and ASOS all allow you to boost your Nectar points balance
  • Esso – fill up the car and swipe your Nectar card
  • British Gas – simply by being a customer you can earn up to 400 Nectar points a year. Link your account and never think about it again!

What can I spend my Nectar points on?

The fun part about the Nectar loyalty scheme is choosing what to spend your points on. There are plenty of places to choose from, but some offer far better value than others, in my opinion.

So where can you spend Nectar points? You can find a full list here of places to spend your points, but some places include:

  • Sainsburys – spend your Nectar points in-store. 500 points equals £2.50 off your shopping. It’s not huge, and you’d have to spend £250 in the store before you got your £2.50 off.
  • Sainsburys double up event – if you’re wanting to spend your Nectar points is-store, it’s a good idea to wait for the double up event, usually in November but not conformed un til right before the event. As you’ve probably guessed, you get to quite literally double your points, making it far better value than spending your points in-store outside the double up event
  • Rent a movie on Sky – you could rent a new movie from Sky using your Nectar points. Movies start from 1050 Nectar points, and you choose the value of the Sky movie voucher you want to spend your points on.
  • Cafe Nero – grab a free coffee using your Nectar points. One drink will set you back 350 Nectar points.

Personally, I think you need to spend a fair amount of your points to get something pretty small, which isn’t great. That said though, if you’re linking your Nectar card to lots of places you spend money in anyway, whatever you spend your points on will be a bonus.
